Following the plethora of low-hanging jokes—and they will be plenty of hilarious ones—the season will probably be forced to end early or else it will quickly turn into a dark comedy about how work over a digital medium isn’t as fun as it was before. This might also serve as a great social critique on how physical connections are 10x better than digital ones (i.e. have we reached peak-social-media?).
Now I will follow with episode ideas:
Idea #1: Social distancing conference calls have a learning curve, especially when they involve multiple parties simultaneously. Besides the obvious one about lack of physical cues alerting people when it’s OK to start and stop talking, all conference calls will unfortunately involve a lot of people talking over each other, connection issues, background noise, late comers who need everything repeated, people falsely asserting themselves to show they have things under control—pretty much the same things that happen in regular meetings, except now you have to suffer through it all in slow motion within a digital medium. As they say, the more things change, the more they stay the same.
Idea #2: Workplace romance – This would be a fun area to explore, especially when you look at it from a #MeToo perspective. I can see a lot of laughs. Workers doing “private” chats to take care of loose ends. Finding out about marital problems at home (ok, maybe that’s too serious). “Let’s get a drink after the meeting…” which results in two people getting a drink in a more private area of their home.
Idea #3: Social Distancing Lunch Conference Call – Different types of food people are eating could create for great comedy. Vegans getting grossed out by meat eaters chomping down on a lamb shank, etc.
Idea #4: Backgrounds of people homes. Funny books, objects, couches, paintings, etc.
